I love being involved in curating the garden sections of the Cumbria Life Home & Garden Show at Rheged. It’s a lot of work but also a fantastic opportunity to bring great businesses to the attention of a much bigger audience, not only at the Show in March but also through the pages of Cumbria Life in the months before.

Each year, I’m keen to bring plantsmen and women and their nurseries into the Show but it’s a challenge as there’s not always a lot to display in March. Thanks go to Brownthwaite Hardy Plants, Garth Cottage Herbs, Pine Tree Nurseries, Tinnisburn Plants and The Pot Place Garden Centre for their continued support.

These regulars will be joined in 2020 by Stella Exley and her team from Hare Spring Cottage Plants at Alne, over the Pennines in North Yorkshire.

Hare Spring is home to the National Collections of Camassia and Sidalcea and the nursery specialises in hardy plants that will thrive in our colder, damper northern gardens. Camassia in particular are available throughout the year and they grow from bulbs that love moisture retentive soil, something gardeners know a lot about in Cumbria!

Look out for Stella at the Show and find out more about her National Collections, her work with Plant Heritage and her Open Days and Workshops plus lots more on her website at www.harespringcottageplants.co.uk.
